Dalarö Kajak is a kayak rental on the archipelago island Dalarö. Beginners can paddle in the calm waters closest to the rental, while those more experienced can venture into the scenic outer archipelago, or to one of the many uninhabited coves to pitch a tent. (All equipment is available for hire, and the staff are happy to give tips for different routes.)For those who want to learn more about the area and nature, guided tours can also be booked. There is also a selection of multiple-day packages – accommodation and food included – for happy campers with time on their hands.Dalarö Kajak is reachable within an hour from Stockholm by public transportation.

Also called Mälarölederna, these are a collection of hiking trails stretching over a few islands in Lake Mälaren, belonging to Ekerö municipality. Nature is rich in wildlife and dramatic shifts.Lovö hiking trail goes through Lovö nature reserve and over forest paths and beaches. The hiking trail is about 18 kilometers long and has one huge attraction above all: Drottningholm Palace. Ekerö-Munsö hiking trail part 1 is an 18-kilometer long path that passes, among other things, a swimming area and Skytteholm where you&#x27;ll find a hotel and a golf club. Ekerö-Munsö hiking trail part 2 is 15 kilometers long with lots of swimming opportunities in small lakes along the way. Adelsö hiking trail takes you to ancient tombs and a tower with nice views over Lake Mälaren. The trail is 16 kilometers long.Keep in mind that none of the trails in Ekerö municipality offer shelters for overnight stays.

Deep untouched forest, sun-warmed cliffs, and a large population of capercaillies – that&#x27;s the Swedish version of paradise. Paradiset Nature Reserve is located in Huddinge, south of Stockholm City. Besides primeval forest, the nature reserve consists of bogs, fields, pastures, and several lakes.It&#x27;s a popular place for hiking, as both <a id="809" linktype="page">Sörmlandsleden</a> and Huddingeleden trails go through the area. There are also three shorter hiking loops in Paradiset Nature Reserve: Sameslingan (5 kilometers), Tornbergsslingan (6 kilometers), and Brinkslingan (8 kilometers). Resting areas and wind shelters are available. Maps are for sale in the cabin, open on Sundays only.

Roslagsleden offers hiking trails through deep forest and coastal landscape, with several cultural sights sprinkled along the way. The 19-kilometer long trail starts in Danderyd just north of Stockholm city and passes by places like Domarudden, Norrtälje, and Roslagsbro before ending in Grisslehamn.The hiking trail is divided into 11 sections with plenty of swimming opportunities. The overnight stay options are many: choose between shelters, campsites, cabins, or hotels.Three places not to miss along the way are Angarnssjöängen (Section 2) which is one of the county’s finest locations for birdwatching, the idyllic red cottages at the historical environment Wira Bruk (Section 5 and 6), and the artist and author Albert Engström’s studio (Section 11), overlooking the Sea of Åland.

Sörmlandsleden is one of the longest hiking trails in Sweden. Just south of Stockholm, it stretches over 1,000 kilometers and passes through towns like Nynäshamn, Södertälje, Eskilstuna, Nyköping, Oxelösund, and Trosa.The landscape is varied and diverse, like Sweden in a miniature. The 92 sections let you experience culture and history, mountains and deep forest, lakes, and coastlines. A challenging hike or a Sunday stroll – it’s up to you. Some of the paths are adjusted for people with disabilities.On Sörmlandsleden you can hike for a few hours or several days. Tyresta National Park, 40 minutes from the city center, is one of the largest untouched woodlands in Sweden outside the alpine areas. The area has a beautiful virgin forest and was made a national park in 1993.The park has a 30-kilometer perimeter and a wide variety of unique plants and animals. Pack a picnic and take a walk in the wild, magical forest. Stop to pick berries or swim in one of the lakes.There are a café and a farm shop in Tyresta By and buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Also worth seeing are the exhibits at Naturum (Nationalparkernas hus). The building is shaped like a map of Sweden and is characterized by its eco-friendliness and natural materials.

Hike the 500 kilometers from the bays of Mälardalen in the south all the way up to Dalälven archipelago in the north. Or, select one of the 31 sections or 14 circular routes. Upplandsleden is a hiking trail that cuts through the counties of Stockholm and Uppsala. Two popular spots along the trail are Kolarmoraån (Section 9), a river with great canoe trails, and Färnebofjärden National Park (Section 18-20), with its islands and shores. There are wind shelters along most sections and even a number of cabins that are free to use and available on a first-come basis.
