A typical Swedish breakfast?
Naturally, breakfast habits differ greatly from household to household. But if you're looking to eat breakfast like a Swede during your stay, one of these breakfast evergreens is a good place to start.
- Oatmeal with milk and dried berries, fruit, jam or nuts.
- Sandwiches. Usually open-faced and quite simple with butter spread and only one or two toppings. Possibly a slice of tomato or cucumber. Common toppings are cheese, leverpastej (liver paté), and cold cuts. Either soft bread or crisp bread is fine.
- Boiled eggs with smörgåskaviar (a popular Swedish roe spread made from cod roe, tomato sauce, and onions). Either eaten on their own or as topping on a sandwich.
- Cereal, granola, or müesli with yogurt or filmjölk (Swedish fermented milk).
- Coffee, tea, milk, or juice.
