Where to eat and drink in the new Slussen area
Publish date: 23 April 2026
Slussen is entering a new phase – and gastronomy has become a key part of what’s happening here. One of Stockholm’s largest urban development projects is nearing completion, transforming a long-standing transport hub into a more open and accessible meeting place between Södermalm and Gamla stan. Traffic is moving below ground, while new squares, walkways and quays are opening up along the water. As the area takes shape, a growing mix of restaurants and bars is defining Slussen as a place to eat, drink and spend time – not just pass through.
Across the area, new openings are clustered in a few key spots – from rooftop venues in Katarinahuset to waterfront restaurants and several larger concepts on the way. Here’s how to navigate them.

Katarinahuset – rooftops, classics and new openings
A growing cluster of restaurants and bars with wide views over the city and water.
- Gondolen – A long-standing Stockholm classic with sweeping views over Gamla stan, Djurgården and the water. The menu is rooted in Swedish cuisine, with a modern touch and a focus on well-prepared, high-quality ingredients.
- Café Klotet – A social and lively restaurant combining simple, well-made food with a strong focus on wine, music and culture. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, regular DJs, art and great views.
- Brasserie Lou Lou – A French-style brasserie inspired by classic Parisian dining, with a focus on traditional dishes and a refined yet relaxed setting. The setting leans towards art deco, creating a more atmospheric and slightly dressed-up experience.
- Pelago – A large, seasonal rooftop restaurant and bar, open during the warmer months. Known for its views over central Stockholm, it serves grilled dishes with global influences, alongside cocktails in a more relaxed, open-air setting.
- Pet Sounds Bar – A bar rooted in Stockholm’s music scene, connected to the iconic Pet Sounds record store in Skånegatan. Vinyl, regulars and a laid-back atmosphere define the space.

Waterfront & under the bridge
Where well-known chefs and concepts meet a more relaxed waterfront setting at quay level.
- Krog Agrikultur – A relaxed take on Nordic dining beneath the Golden Bridge, with a focus on seasonal Swedish ingredients and well-composed set menus. The setting is informal but considered, with views over the water and outdoor seating during the warmer months.
- Slussporten – A lively restaurant and bar set beneath the Golden Bridge, with views over the water and Gamla stan. The menu takes its starting point in Swedish cooking, shaped by the seasons and influenced by international flavours, creating a dynamic and social meeting place.
- Vattentorget – A new public square by the water, designed as a place to pause rather than pass through. With steps down to the water, seating and open views, it works well as a stop before or after a meal, or simply as part of a walk along the waterfront.

Coming soon – Mälarterrassen
Several new concepts are set to open at Slussen in the coming years, with Mälarterrassen as the largest upcoming addition. Planned to open in stages from 2026, it will bring six restaurants across multiple levels, all facing the water and Gamla stan, with outdoor seating and direct access to the waterfront.
- Restaurang Liv – An upcoming restaurant by chefs Tommy Myllymäki & Pi Le, expected to open in May of 2026, adding a more ambitious dining option to the area.
- Brasserie Astrid – A new concept by restaurateur Napolyon Sürer, described as a modern brasserie moving in rhythm with the city, from lunch to late evening. Set across three levels with views over the water, it brings together classic brasserie dishes and international influences in a lively, social setting.
- Two more operators have been confirmed: Urban Italian Group, known for creative Mediterranean concepts like Basta and Florentine, and Desirée Jaks, who is set to open a British pub concept in the area.
Together, these additions will further shape Slussen as a key place to eat and drink in Stockholm. More concepts are expected to be announced, making this one of the most dynamic food developments in central Stockholm.

Things to do around Slussen
Slussen sits right between Södermalm and Gamla stan, making it easy to combine a meal with other nearby experiences. Walk towards Fotografiska for world-class photography exhibitions by the water, or head up to Södra Teatern and Mosebacketerrassen for live music, drinks and views over the city.
The area itself is opening up towards the water, with new promenades, quays and public spaces. Stop by Vattentorget for a break by the water, or follow the waterfront paths towards Gamla stan and Skeppsbron. In the coming years, the planned Nobel Center will add a space for inspiration, focus and reflection to the area.
Whether you’re here for dinner, drinks or just passing through, Slussen is becoming a place to spend time – not just pass through.
