2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

Preamble :

Experience the world's biggest hockeyfest in Stockholm.

The 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is the biggest winter sports event in the world, and in May 2025 it returns to Stockholm for the eleventh time!

64 games will be played during the championship. 34 games, including the semi-finals as well as the bronze and gold medal games, will be played at Avicii Arena. The other 30 games are played at Jyske Bank Boxen in the Danish Co-Host City of Herning.

Will Sweden have some advantage playing in Stockholm and come out on top? Or will Czechia defend its 2024 win?

The 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

The 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will take place May 9-25. Group A (Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden) as well as the bronze and gold medal games will play at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Group B (Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Norway, Switzerland, and the USA) will play at Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, Denmark. Two of the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, the bronze and gold medal game will also be played in Stockholm.

Stockholm Hockeyfest for All Ages

Just in time for the finals, Stockholm will launch a Hockeyfest Zone in Kungsträdgården—an exciting hub where visitors can try ice skating, challenge pros in table hockey, experience an infrared sauna, and more.

Every day, you'll also have the chance to try out sports like street hockey, table tennis, and track and field activities for juniors. Students from the Stockholm School of the Arts (Kulturskolan Stockholm) will exhibit artworks interpreting the theme of ice and ice hockey. Also on display is a historical retrospective featuring iconic moments from previous World Championships, highlighting the proud ice hockey traditions of participating nations.

The event is free.

Did you know?

2025 will be the 11th time Stockholm hosts the Ice Hockey World Championship. The first time was in 1949. Sweden has also won gold eleven times. The first time was in 1953 and the last time in 2018.

How to get to Avicii Arena

Most Stockholmers use public transport to get around. Avicii Arena is near the Globen metro station which is located on the southern branch of the no. 19 line. Alternatively, you can take tram no. 30 or a short walk from Gullmarsplan's metro station.
