The upscale neighborhoods of Östermalm have recently seen a culinary boom. Here are some great restaurants for lunch or dinner.
Östermalm has long been synonymous with exclusive shops and prestigious restaurants. And to a certain extent, it still is. Michelin-starred Gastrologik, at the forefront of New Nordic cuisine, is located in the area. And Östermalm Market Hall has been supplying hungry Stockholmers with the best cheese, meat, fish, and vegetables on offer since 1888. But in recent years Östermalm has gone through a culinary renaissance, and beloved establishments like Riche and Berns have gotten new young neighbors.
Coco & Carmen might be a classic lunch restaurant by day, but come nightfall and the location is turned into a rowdy hot spot with a 9 course set menu. Less lively but cozier is DoMa, which has traded in typical fine dining tropes for a more homey feel. DoMa, founded by Tea Malmegård and Viktor Lejon, actually started as an at-home restaurant and the menu features many ingredients grown in their own garden.
Other fairly recent additions to Östermalm's restaurant scene are Brasserie Astoria, founded by Björn Frantzén of Franzén-fame, the french bistro La Belle Epoque, Asian gastropub Goma and the beer hall -and brewery Omaka. And speaking of beverages, you'll find several great bars, mixing delicious drinks and cocktails in the neighborhood. Lucy's Flower Shop, Coquetel Social, and A bar called Gemma to name a few.
Rebellious restaurants, hip breweries, speakeasy bars – here are some of the most talked-about places on Östermalm!
