The upscale neighborhoods of Östermalm have recently seen a culinary boom. Here are some great restaurants for lunch or dinner.
Östermalm has long been synonymous with exclusive shops and prestigious restaurants. And to a certain extent, it still is. Östermalm Market Hall has supplied hungry Stockholmers with the best cheese, meat, fish, and vegetables since 1888. But in recent years Östermalm has gone through a culinary renaissance and beloved establishments like Riche and Sturehof have received new and rowdy neighbors.
Coco & Carmen might be a classic lunch restaurant by day, but come nightfall, the location turns into a rowdy hot spot with a 9-course set menu. Less lively but cozier is DoMa, which has traded in typical fine dining tropes for a more homey feel. DoMa, founded by Tea Malmegård and Viktor Lejon, started as an at-home restaurant and the menu features many ingredients grown in their garden.
Other relatively recent additions to Östermalm's restaurant scene are Brasserie Astoria, founded by Björn Frantzén of Franzén-fame; the French restaurant La Belle Epoque; Asian gastropub Goma; omakase-diner Black Milk Gastro Pub and the beer hall -and brewery Omaka.
