Practical tips for skiing in Stockholm
A bit of planning will help you make the most of your ski day in Stockholm.
- Check current conditions. Opening hours, snow conditions and track status can change quickly with the weather. Always check each facility’s official website (and for cross-country, Skidspår.se) before you go.
- Look into rentals and lessons. Some ski areas offer ski and snowboard rentals and lessons for both children and adults – ideal if you’re a beginner or don’t want to bring your own gear. Always check the official website for what’s available, opening hours, and current snow conditions.
- Dress in layers. Winters in Stockholm can be cold, especially when you’re out for several hours. Wear a thermal base layer, a warm mid-layer and a wind- and water-resistant outer layer, plus gloves, hat and warm socks.
- Use public transport. Stockholm’s metro, buses, trams and commuter trains make it easy to reach several of the ski areas without a car.
