Ingmar Bergman

Publish date: 9 June 2017

Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007), whose unique cinematographic style made him one of the most notable directors of the twentieth century, grew up in Stockholm. He started here, gazing up at the gates of Filmstaden in hopes of being discovered. And it is here, in Gamla Stan, that his career took off. Stockholm is also the backdrop in most of his early films. His fame rests upon large productions of remarkable quality throughout a career that spanned nearly sixty years. Bergman directed 75 films and 170 productions for stage, television, and radio.
