Exceptional souvenirs

Publish date: 12 January 2024

Do you already have all the Dala horses, Viking helmets, and cute moose figurines you need? Why not bring a contemporary design classic home? These Stockholm-themed souvenirs are modern mementos that combine style with great memories of your visit.

Fashion and perfume

"Stockholm 1978", perfume, Vilhelm Parfumerie. Inspired by the scent of a summer night in Stockholm, this lush perfume is a blend of lemon, almond, and patchouli. Does it smell of Stockholm? You´ll have to book your next trip and find out. Perfumes from Vilhelm Parfumerie can be found at the department store NK. NK is a good place to start for souvenir hunters as the department store has several Swedish brands in stock.

"Stockholm"-scarf, Svenskt Tenn. The classic Stockholm print was initially shown on a cushion in the studio of Swedish Tenn at the 1939 New York World's Fair. Since then it's been featured on many of the design items at Svenskt Tenn, a must-visit shop for classically Swedish interior design.

Swedish Perfume. What makes Byredo unique is its simplicity and the relatively few ingredients the perfume company uses in its products. All the fragrances are unisex. In the shop, you will find perfumes, candles, and body products, some of them made exclusively for the store.

Design

Nobel porcelain, dinnerware. They are almost more famous than the Nobel-prize winners themselves. The star of the annual Nobel banquet is its tableware created by Karin Björquist and Gunnar Cyrén for the 90th Nobel anniversary. Nobel dinnerware can be found at Rörstrand and Iittala flagship store, Kungsgatan 1, Stockholm

"Stockholm", coaster. Put your hot beverages on something really cool. The gift shop at Moderna Museet, the Stockholm Museum of Contemporary Art, offers a variety of beautiful design objects, like this brass coaster from Men at Work.

"Nordic Light", candleholder. A truly modern design icon that combines Scandinavian design with practicality by designer Jonas Grundell. Unfold and shape the arms as you like and create new shapes. The candle holder can be found at Cervera on Sveavägen.

Traditional Swedish crafts. Svensk Hemslöjd ("Swedish handicrafts") was founded to preserve craft methods and traditional patterns from all over Sweden. Besides being an organization that aims to preserve old traditional crafting methods it's also a perfect store fro souvenirs. The foundation's store is located in central Stockholm where you'll find all kinds of traditionally made objects; sweaters, scarfs, blankets, kitchenware, household items, and materials. You'll even find tools to try your hand at the crafts yourself!

Trays with the Sergels Torg pattern. Bring home the classic pattern that covers the lower half of Sergels Torg in central Stockholm. Sold in Designtorget's shops, among other places.

Things to eat and drink

"Stockholm", coffee blend. Bring some of the Swedish fika home with you. The taste and design of this roast are inspired by urban life in Stockholm and the people who live here. The roast is described as an “in-between” type, just like the Swedish word “lagom” which means the very same. The Stockholm coffee blend from Zoegas is readily available in most local food stores and supermarkets, like ICA, Coop, and Willys

Swedish candy. "Swedish Fish" is beloved in Sweden, and you'll find it in almost every grocery store's pick-and-mix section. But if you're looking for sweets more unique to Stockholm, Pärlans Konfektyr on Södermalm is a great option. This '50s-styled shop makes artisan fudge and soft caramels and packages them beautifully. Don’t miss the one with vanilla and sea salt! Many Swedes also love licorice, both salty and sweet and you´ll find all kinds at the stylish Lakritsroten. During the summer season, they even serve licorice-flavored soft ice cream.

Swedish beer, wine, and alcohol. Stockholm has several craft beer breweries – like Pang Pang, Omnipollo, and PKLK – and alcohol producers like Stockholm Bränneri and Norrtelje Bränneri. If you're looking for a bottle of gin or IPA from Stockholm, Systembolaget (The Swedish Alcohol Monopoly). You will find low-alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer in convenience and grocery stores, though.
