Stockholm has bookstores with something for everyone, whether you're looking for chilling suspense, poetry, prose, gripping novels, luxurious photography, art books, or something the whole family can read together.

Below we've listed some independent bookstores in Stockholm. However, Sweden's largest chain of stores is Akademibokhandeln (page in Swedish), with several locations in the Stockholm Area. The largest is located at Mäster Samuelsgatan.

  • Bokslukaren – An independent children’s bookstore for both kids and parents.
  • Gamla Stans bokhandel – Bookshop located in Stockholm’s oldest boulevard, Stora Nygatan in Gamla Stan.
  • Hedengrens Bokhandel – One of the oldest bookstores in Stockholm located on Östermalm.
  • Hornstulls bokhandel – A small independent bookstore in the Hornstull neighborhood of Södermalm.
  • Konst-ig – Large independent art bookstore in Scandinavia. Konst-ig specializes in most visual art forms, from graffiti to brutalist architecture.
  • Rönnells Antikvariat – Has been a staple of Stockholm's literary scene since 1929.
  • Papercut – A store that offers both international and Swedish newspapers, books, films, music and printed matter.
