Ågesta friluftsområde

Ågesta friluftsområde is a nature area in southern Stockholm, located by Magelungen Lake. It features several hiking and terrain paths, and an outdoor gym, and is adjacent to the Ågesta - Orlången nature reserve. Its most popular feature is the winter-open cross-country skiing track, prepared with artificial snow yearly. Although Ågesta is in the neighboring municipality of Huddinge it can be easily reached by bus from the Farsta Centrum bus terminal.

Ängsö Nationalpark is located on the island of the same name, in the northern Stockholm archipelago. The park is famous for its beautiful flora and its preserved 19th century farmlands. Ängsö is only reachable by boat. Either by docking with your own at one of the islands natural harbors, or taking a ferry from central Stockholm.

For those who like to take the scenic route, <a href="https://www.stromma.com/sv-se/stockholm/">Strömma</a> operates ferries that take passengers from Stockholm city to the museum during the summer months.

Artipelag is a venue for art, culture, design, and delicious food, located among the pine trees of Värmdö in the Stockholm archipelago. The museum takes admission for the exhibitions but the surrounding park and nature path are free of charge. You can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the archipelago from the museum&#x27;s restaurant or café.

Birka

One of Sweden’s first real towns. During Viking times, Birka on the island of Björkö in Lake Mälaren was the central hub and the most important marketplace in the entire Mälar Valley. It was established in the mid-eighth century, attracting travelers from near and afar. Birka of today has a wealth of ancient remains that have been excavated and studied since the 19th century. It was designated a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1993. Birka is only open during the summer season, May-September, but can be easily reached by taking a tour with <a href="https://www.stromma.com/en-se/stockholm/excursions/day-trips/birka-the-viking-city/">Strömma&#x27;s Birka-boat</a> from central Stockholm. The trip takes roughly 2 hours.

Located on the tip of Ingarö, Björnö is a beloved nature reserve in the Stockholm archipelago. With its mix of open sea and green islands, it&#x27;s popular with both hikers and swimmers. You&#x27;ll find farmland, beaches, pine forests, and wetland. The nature reserve has a lovely forest trail for hikers, as well as an underwater snorkel trail and kayak-rentals.

Botkyrka Konsthall in the southern suburb of Fittja is an art hall that exhibits modern art by both international and local artists. It regularly also hosts various workshops and art events, and runs the Xetmuseum in Tumba, showcasing art by Sven Xet Erixon.

Drottningholm is closed the 7-19 september on the occasion of HM the King´s 50th anniversary.

Take a day trip to Drottningholm and experience a historic milieu of the highest standard. Drottningholm Palace is Sweden&#x27;s best-preserved royal palace constructed in the seventeenth century, the permanent residence of the royal family, and one of Stockholm&#x27;s three World Heritage Sites.The palace was constructed according to a French prototype by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, by the commission of Queen Hedvig Eleonora. Many royal personages have left their mark on the palace since then. The palace features magnificent salons from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, a beautiful park, a unique palace theater, and a Chinese Pavilion. The imposing Baroque garden was laid out at the beginning of 1681 according to drawings by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger. The palace and the park are mostly open to visitors year-round.Drottningholms Slottsteater (the Drottningholm Palace Theater) is the best-preserved eighteenth-century theater in Europe and the only one in the world that still uses the original stage machinery on a regular basis. The theater has guided tours and performances during the summer.The palace has been the permanent residence of the present royal family since 1981. The rooms in the southern part of the palace are reserved for members of the royal family. In 1991 Drottningholm was the first Swedish attraction put on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. The easiest way to get to Drottningholm is by taking a bus from Brommaplan.

The industrial, old factory building that is the art centre Färgfabriken. The bricks are a burned orange colour and the skies are blue.

Färgfabriken has been a platform for contemporary art, architecture, urban planning, and design since 1995. The name, meaning &#x27;the color factory&#x27;, refers to the history of the building. During the late 1800s and early 1900s paint, soap, and other artistic materials were produced within the same walls. Färgfabrikens Kafé serves fika, lunch, and brunch. Located on Liljeholmen.

Museums in Stockholm. Fullersta Gård in Huddinge municipality is a 17th century mansion that has been turned into an art hall.

Fullersta Gård is a 17th-century mansion in southern Stockholm and one of the oldest settlements in the municipality of Huddinge. Today the estate has been turned into a modern art museum but also has a permanent exhibition with works by Karin Boye, and Ewert Karlsson.

When inaugurated in 1920, Råsunda Filmstaden (today called Gamla Filmstaden) was the world’s most modern movie factory. It had workshops, dressing rooms, office space, a film laboratory, film storage, a directors’ pavilion, a restaurant – and most importantly – two large soundstages. This is where legendary director Ingmar Bergman used to work, and where actresses Ingrid Bergman and Greta Garbo made their debut.Even though movies are no longer made here, the walls are still steeped in cinematic history.In total, 30 of Ingmar Bergman&#x27;s movies were filmed here, including his award-winning movie debut Torment (1944). You can still see the grove behind Backstugan where Monika ran with the stolen roast in Summer With Monika (1953), and the site of the witch-burning in The Seventh Seal (1957).Today, Gamla Filmstaden is an obvious destination for film buffs and movie lovers. Guided tours, audio guides, and a café await visitors, as well as a modern multi-screen cinema.

Koppartälten (copper-tents) at Haga, elaborate light blue ”tents” build 1787. The front is painted copper plates, hence the name of these pretty buildings.

Part of the Royal National City Park, the lush Haga Park (or just Haga) is situated just north of Stockholm in the suburb of Solna. Founded by the monarch Gustav III in 1780-1797, Haga is Sweden&#x27;s foremost example of an English landscape park, and one of Sweden&#x27;s most popular recreational areas. It&#x27;s also the site of many historical landmarks. The Chinese Temple, The Turkish Kiosk, and The Royal Burial Ground are all found in the park. Within the park is also Haga Palace, the residence of Crown Princess Victoria and her family.

Hammarbybacken ski resort

A Stockholm landmark, Hammarbybacken is a popular weekend destination for many Stockholmers during the winter months. Hammarbybacken is easy to reach, either by taking the Tvärbanan-tram to Sickla Kaj or bus number 74. There are five easy-to-ski downhill slopes, a snowboard park, ski school, equipment rental, and a café. The Park Inn Hotel Hammarby, “Stockholm’s first ski hotel,” is located at the foot of the slopes. For the rest of the year, Hammarbybacken is open for other activities including downhill cycling.

If you enjoy the outdoors, the Hellasgården recreation area, 20 minutes from downtown Stockholm, should be on you Stockholm bucket list. Here, you can walk or bike along the paths, or swim by the sandy beach. For the sporty visitor, open-air activities abound, including petanque, beach volleyball, fishing, tennis, canoeing, and yoga. During the winter ice skating and cross-country skiing dominate, with a hole cut in the ice for the bravest swimmers. (There is also a sauna on-site.) Hungry visitors can head to Storstugan, where fika, light lunches, and vegetarian dishes are served.

Located in the southern suburb of Högdalen (which quite literally translates to Highvalley), Highvalley Skateworld is a popular skate park with bowls, ditches, ramps, rails, and a kid area. The park regularly hosts competitions and festivals, like the annual Bowlstock. Although a public park, accessible all year-round, the renting booth and courses are only available during the spring and summer months. The park can be reached by taking the subway&#x27;s green line to Högdalen.

Järvafältet - Hansta naturreservat

Järvafältet is a large forested area, connecting several of Stockholm&#x27;s northern suburbs, like Kista, Akalla, Solna, and Sundbyberg. A popular place for outdoor activities, you&#x27;ll find hiking trails, meadows, ponds, and several nature reserves like Hansta nature reserve and Järvafältets nature reserve.

KD Court is a colorful public basketball court located in Tensta, in the Järva area of Stockholm. The court opened in 2023, and the project was initiated by basketball superstar Kevin Durant together with the organizations Brilliant Minds and Hoop Dreams.

Konsthall C

Konsthall C in the southern suburb of Hökarängen is one of a kind. Housed in a former industrial laundry building, it started as an art experiment but is now both a permanent exhibition hall and place of work for artists, authors, researchers, and more. The area of Hökarängen itself is worth a trip, especially if you&#x27;re interested in Swedish post-war architecture. Besides Konsthall C, you&#x27;ll find several culturally significant buildings and areas, like the Skönstaholm townhouses and the &quot;zig-zag&quot;-building on Fagersjövägen.

Snösätra Graffiti Wall of Fame is one of Europe´s largest graffiti exhibitions. It’s located in the suburb of Rågsved in Stockholm.

Situated in the suburb of Rågsved the open-air (and all year round) exhibition in Snösätra Kulturkvarter is certainly off the beaten path, but well worth a visit for anyone with even a passing interest in street art. Swedish and international artists bring their signature style each year, and there’s also an open wall where anyone who respects the rules is welcome to showcase their artistry. There’s an annual festival every spring with music, DJs, and live painting to unveil new murals and a handful of official vernissages and parties all through the summer.

Lida Nature Reserve is located in Tullinge, just south of Stockholm. The large forest has lots of beautiful nature to experience, a lake for swimming – and a sauna raft! Several walking paths cutting through the forest. For climbers, there&#x27;s also a high-altitude treetop adventure park and a small parkour track. During winter, the walking paths are turned into cross-country skiing tracks.

Marabouparken is one of Sweden’s best-preserved functionalist settings. In the park, there is a collection of sculptures as well as a gallery with exhibitions of contemporary art. Their restaurant alone is worth the trip.

Matateljén

Beloved restaurant Matateljén has settled into Stockholm&#x27;s up and coming area Slakthusområdet, where its creative approach to seasonal cooking continues to evolve. The vibrant space is centered around an open kitchen designed as several individual stations. The kitchen offers a four-course set menu with either seafood or meat as the guiding theme, while the à la carte options allow for a more flexible visit.

Millesgården Museum

Here, art, history and nature meet. Millesgården was created by sculptor Carl Milles and his wife, artist Olga Milles. It offers a unique environment that includes a large sculpture park, the artists&#x27; home, and a museum with rotating exhibitions. Visitors can walk through lavish terraces adorned with sculptures and fountains created by Carl Milles, and enjoy the view of Stockholm’s inlet. In the artist’s home, you can see the studios, and on one of the lower terraces is Anne’s House, furnished by Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank from Svenskt Tenn. Millesgården also has a restaurant and café.

Skärisbiografen is located in the Stockholm suburb of Skärholmen, in the same building as Kulturhuset Stadsteaterns satellite (which also runs the cinema). The movie theater is open to all but is the first in Stockholm to focus on films for children and teenagers (ages 5-19). Besides its regular programming Skärisbiografen hosts film festivals, educational screenings and &quot;knattebio&quot;; movies for toddlers.

Sommar i Hammarbybacken

In 2022 Skistar opened its summer activity park at the Hammarbybacken ski slope. Activities include ziplining, several mountain tube tracks, a speedy mountain coaster, and special grass for summer skiing. In other words, you don&#x27;t have to wait for winter and snow for a great day on the slopes anymore!

SkiStar Sports & Adventures

Tensta Konsthall is the result of a grassroots initiative to bring art to the suburbs of Stockholm. Opened in 1998, the museum has hosted exhibitions by some of the world&#x27;s leading contemporary artists like Tris Vinna-Michell, Marie Louise Ekman, and Iman Issa.

Tensta Parkour, in the northern suburb of Tensta, is Stockholm’s first public parkour course. Suitable for beginners and experienced athletes alike, it offers visitors a wide variety of obstacles to traverse and climb. The park located is just a short walk from Tensta station on the subway’s blue line.

Tyresö Palace is beautifully situated by Kalvfjärden in the municipality of Tyresö, south of Stockholm. The castle was built in the 1630s but nowadays you can see it the way it looked like as a private residence around 1900. The castle is open in the summer for weekend tours. The beautiful parks around Tyresö Castle are open to visitors all year round. Nearby there is a café, a restaurant, a garden shop, and a hostel.

Tyresta National Park, 40 minutes from the city center, is one of the largest untouched woodlands in Sweden outside the alpine areas. The area has a beautiful virgin forest and was made a national park in 1993.The park has a 30-kilometer perimeter and a wide variety of unique plants and animals. Pack a picnic and take a walk in the wild, magical forest. Stop to pick berries or swim in one of the lakes.There are a café and a farm shop in Tyresta By and buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Also worth seeing are the exhibits at Naturum (Nationalparkernas hus). The building is shaped like a map of Sweden and is characterized by its eco-friendliness and natural materials.

A place of sublime beauty and poetry. Created over a period of a quarter-century (1915-1940) on about 250 acres of pine-covered boulder ridge under the direction of the famous modernist architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz.Considered one of the most important works of the modernists, it evokes a Nordic philosophy on nature, life, and death. There are also a number of beautiful chapels and a visitor center (open May-September). Skogskyrkogården is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994.
