The tradition of celebrating a National Day in Sweden began at Skansen in 1893. Artur Hazelius, the founder of Skansen, wanted to establish an annual day that would be a patriotic focus for the nation and picked the 6th of June. Every year, the Royal Family visits the Skansen for the National Day celebrations.
