By bike in Stockholm

Publish date: 14 June 2024

Besides being environmentally friendly and a good exercise, bicycling is one of the easiest ways to get around Stockholm. Whether you’ve brought your own or rented a bike at one of the town's many rental companies, there are paths and lanes all over and you can easily get around between the islands.

Rent a bike

There are several rental options; Gamla Stans Cykel, Cykelstallet, and Stockholm Adventures offer rental bikes all year round. Rent-a-bike offers both bike rentals for several days or by the hour from May to September.

Parking your bike

As a result of Stockholm’s drive to make the city easier to traverse for cyclists, new parking spaces for cyclists are being built every year. About 2000 will be built between 2017-2018. Besides the ubiquitous cycle stands that you’ll see everywhere, there are parking spaces for cyclists in conjunction with virtually every subway station, arena, shopping mall, park, and public space.

If you’re interested in a more secure way to lock up your bike there are several bike-sized lockers in parking garages around town. These lockers cost 100 SEK a month to rent.

Afraid that your tires will run out of air? No worries. There are multiple air pump stations located around the city where you can refill on air, free of charge. Check the official map to see which one is closest to you.
