Tumba Paper Mill Museum

Jens Mohr, Tumba bruksmuseum/SHM

Just outside Stockholm, in a lush and historically rich setting, lies Tumba Paper Mill Museum – a place where the story of Sweden’s money comes to life. Here, at the old paper mill dating back to the 18th century, banknote paper was produced for over 250 years, and traces of both the craftsmanship and the people who lived here remain.

At the museum, you can move through authentic environments, learn how paper was transformed from raw material into finished banknotes, and gain insight into what life at the mill was like – where work, family life, and community were closely intertwined. In the workshop, you can even try making paper yourself, just as people have done for thousands of years.

Outside the museum, you can enjoy a peaceful walk in the surrounding area or take a break at the Brukscafé, where you can savor a cup of coffee made from beans roasted by the café itself.
