Viveca Steen might be the queen of Swedish crime literature, but the lighthouse on the small island of Grönskär is the queen of the archipelago. The 26-meter-tall building (just over 86 feet) – named Östersjöns Drottning, literally “Queen of the Baltic sea” – has helped seafarers navigate through the eastern inlet of the archipelago since 1770. To visit Grönskär you can rent a taxi boat from Sandhamn on Sandön as there are no regular ferry lines to the island.
