Rachael Dixon is an entrepreneur and business developer who moved to Stockholm in 2014. With a background working with some of the UK & Sweden’s biggest media brands, she set up her own agency in 2021 with Swede Sofia Axelsson. 

She intended to stay in Stockholm for  6 months, but ended up loving it here, becoming a Swedish citizen in 2019.  As a former rower with a need to be beside water, living in a city built on 14 islands makes all the sense in the world.

After five years of renovations and modernizations, Nationalmuseum - Sweden&#x27;s premier museum of art and design - opened up its doors again in 2018. The new space is tailored, quite literally, to highlight the museum&#x27;s enormous collection of classic art.

Moderna Museet

Experience one of Europe&#x27;s foremost collections of art from the twentieth century to today, featuring works by artists including Picasso, Dali, Derkert, and Matisse. Moderna Museet is located on Skeppsholmen island, a setting of natural beauty. The building was designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo.

The Royal Palace

Welcome to one of the largest palaces in Europe! The Royal Palace is the official residence of His Majesty the King of Sweden, with over 600 rooms.The Palace is open to the public and offers no less than five museums. The Palace was largely built during the eighteenth century in the Italian Baroque style, on the spot where the “Tre Kronor” castle burned down in 1697. Visit the reception rooms with splendid interiors from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Rikssalen (the Hall of State) with Queen Kristina’s silver throne, and Ordenssalarna (Halls of the Orders of Chivalry). You can also see Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities, the Tre Kronor Museum, and the Treasury.The Royal Palace also contains the Armory, with royal costumes and armor, as well as coronation carriages and magnificent coaches from the Royal Stable. Make sure not to miss the parade of soldiers and the daily changing of the guard.

Skeppsholmen

Skeppsholmen and Kastellholmen are two beautiful islands in the middle of Stockholm, joined together by a bridge. The easiest way to get here is just by taking a walk along Skeppsholmsbron or taking the public transport ferry from Slussen or Nybrokajen. The islands are probably best known for their museums and attractions; Moderna Musset, The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, and Stockholm Toy Museum are all found here. They&#x27;re also great for a seaside walk, with a panoramic view of Östermalm, Djurgården, Södermalm, and Gamla Stan. And if you want to chill out for a bit, maybe enjoy a takeaway lunch from any of the cafés or restaurants here, Sveskuddsparken or Kastellparken offer a green oasis.
