GRAND FINALE of European Festival: Ukrainian Spring with the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra

The festival concludes with a symphonic concert in the Royal Hall with the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra conducted by the Ukrainian-American conductor Theodore Kuchar. The evening begins with the overture to the opera Taras Bulba by Mykola Lysenko (1842–1912), the founding father of Ukrainian art music. The highlight of the concert is Borys Lyatoshynsky's (1895-1968) Symphony No. 3, a monumental and philosophical work marked by deep tragic tension.
