Pahansen de Alwis moved from Sri Lanka to Norrtälje to study at KTH. Here is why he doesn’t regret his move to Stockholm and Norrtälje.
Q: What to you is the best part about living here?
In Stockholm you can have a better balanced life, you get time for your work, your family, your private life - everything. I truly believe this is one of the best places in the world to raise kids.
Q: What is the best thing about living in Norrtälje?
I love Norrtälje, the nature is beautiful and the place is very calm. That is the most important thing for me. The town has a lot of things - swimming halls, parks, nice restaurants, nice schools for kids. I feel safe in that area.
Q: What is an advantage of living in Norrtälje?
In Norrtälje you don’t need your own car since the public transportation to and from Stockholm is so good.
Q: How would you describe Swedish people?
Swedes are open minded, they think positively.
Q: What are your favorite things about Sweden?
I love the seasons because we don’t have these identifiable seasons in Sri Lanka. You are always looking forward to experiencing another season. Swedish Midsummer is one of my favorite holidays, people come together to sing and dance on the longest day of the year. It’s totally new to me and I like it.
Q: How did your life change when you moved here?
When I moved here my life became very easy, I got rid of the unnecessary stress.
Q: How does Sweden differ from other countries?
If I compare Sweden to other countries, the difference here is the systems - they think about everything, from the environment to each and every small need. Here everything is well balanced and well planned. They really want to take care of the next generation.
