Publish date: 18 January 2023
Take the "Gurkburk Experience" for a chance to win tickets to the Handball World Cup in Stockholm. Prizes include match tickets, team jerseys, and match balls!
As the Handball World Cup in Stockholm starts, Visit Stockholm invites you to the Gurkburk Experience (the "pickle jar" experience) in the Gallerian shopping mall and in Globen Shopping, from the 16th to 29th of January.
Pop by and guess how many pickles fit in our virtual jar!
Among those who guessed the closest to the correct number of pickled cucumbers, we will draw two winners who will receive two tickets each to the world cup final in handball at Tele2 Arena on January 29. Others who guessed the closest to the correct answer participate in the prize draw of unique official handballs and official national team jerseys.
THE HISTORY OF THE GURKBURK
You might wonder what a jar of pickled cucumbers has to do with the sport of handball. Well, the Gurkburk is an offensive tactic in handball that was invented by the Swedish men's national team during the 1990s. Gurkburk became a signature of the popular team.
The originator of the cucumber jar method was the captain of Sweden's national team, Bengt Johansson (1942–2022). A legendary leader who took Swedish handball to the absolute top.
