Stockholm for kids

Stockholm is a child-friendly city. There is an abundance of children’s attractions and museums with activities and exhibits especially for children. Distances are short and the public transportation system takes you everywhere you want to go. Buses are even free if you're bringing a stroller.

On the green island of Djurgården many of the children’s attractions are in close proximity to one another, making it the perfect starting place for a vacation with kids. Here you´ll find the fairytale world of Junibacken and the amusement park Gröna Lund with plenty of attractions for kids and adults alike. Across the street from Gröna Lund is Skansen – a popular open-air museum, complete with historical buildings, Nordic animals, a children’s zoo and an aquarium.

While shopping in the city center the Childrens library at Kulturhuset makes for a perfect break for bored kids. At the nearby Åhléns City department store the fourth floor is devoted to families with a large children’s department, a family room for nursing and feeding, and an Italian restaurant.

There is an abundance of restaurants in Stockholm that are suitable for visitors with strollers, and kids are welcome in all cafés and restaurants. If you visit Stockholm during summer you can go swimming in several places in midtown. On the island of Långholmen you´ll find a small sandy beach perfect for kids.

Here are some suggestions on what to do in Stockholm with kids.

Come and play!

All kids love the playground "Bryggartäppan", close to Nytorget on Södermalm. Replicating a Stockholm neighborhood from the late 1800's, the wooden houses include a workshop, a smithy and a factory building. There is also a cute café serving waffles, coffee and ice cream.

You'll find the playground on the corner of Gotlandsgatan and Bjurholmsgatan.
