Every morning, six days a week, the narrow alley K&aring;kbrinken is transformed into a lush oasis as Christoffer Broman opens the doors to his shop and starts arranging all the flowers and plants for sale outside. Christoffers Blommor is a small and personal flower shop in Stockholm's Old Town (Gamla Stan) with many regulars who firmly claim it to be the best in town.

In a medieval basement in the Old Town, you’ll find this classic restaurant. Owned by the Swedish Academy, which selects the Nobel Prize for literature. Legend has it that many Nobel prizes have been decided at the Academy’s regular table here. The menu offers big names in classic Swedish cooking, nowadays with interesting contemporary touches.

Flickan is the evolution of Omakase Köttslöjd. Whereas Köttslöjd was focused on meat, Flickan offers contemporary an omakase-dinner experience free from the shackles of convention and made from the most exceptional ingredients.

Gamla Stans Polkagriskokeri makes polkagrisar, a traditional Swedish peppermint-tasting candy, the tried and tested way: by hand. Located in the Old Town, the shop is a great spot to grab a bag of colorful sweets and get a taste of one of the staples of Swedish candy bowls.

Grillska Huset

Everything on Grillska Huset&#x27;s menu is prepared from scratch using excellent ingredients. It is also a classic Swedish pâtisserie that offers sandwiches, cakes, pastries, pies and tarts. All bread and pastries are from their own bakery. Coffee that is served here comes from the Kersh micro-roastery in Gustavsberg, just outside of Stockholm.

Kaffekoppen is a classic café in Gamla Stan, having been open on Stortorget since 1994. The café is in a cozy basement, close to the district&#x27;s most popular attractions, and serves fika, pastries, sweet pies, soup, and lunch sandwiches.

Maybe a prime example of Sweden&#x27;s openness is the fact that Riksdagshuset - the Parliament House - is open to anyone wishing to attend a debate, public hearing or a study visit. Between September and June, when the parliament is in session, you can visit Riksdagshuset for guided tours and learn how Sweden is actually run and Swedish political history. Tours in English start 13.30, every Saturday and Sunday, and are free of charge but have to be booked in advance.

At Pharmarium, right on Stortorget in the Old Town, the choice of cocktails determines the choice of food. Signature cocktails are served along with well prepared medium-sized dishes composed of seasonal ingredients and traditional medicinal herbs. The bar is inspired by Sweden&#x27;s first pharmacy, which opened to the public in 1575 in the area. Just as its first druggist Anthonius Busenius the owners have created a place of medicine, beauty and magic.

What do dragons, starships, vampires, and ninjas have in common? You’ll find them all at Science Fiction Bokhandeln. Since its inception, back in 1978, the bookstore has grown quite a bit and today it stocks more than just books. Boardgames, role-playing games, comic books, movies, manga, plush toys, collectible card games and more. If you consider yourself a sci-fi, fantasy or horror aficionado, Science Fiction Bokhandeln is definitely worth a visit.

Stortorget is not only the main square in Stockholm&#x27;s old town, but also the oldest square in the city! It was mentioned as early as 1420. This must-visit is home to several highlights such as the <a id="964" linktype="page">Nobel Prize Museum</a>, the popular café <a id="581" linktype="page">Chokladkoppen</a>, the bakery Grillska Huset and the bar and restaurant <a id="693" linktype="page">Pharmarium</a>. The colorful facades on the west side of the square are probably the most photographed in the city!

The Jewish Museum can be found in Stockholms oldest extant synagogue. The site itself, situated in the Old Town, tells the story of when the first Jews came to Sweden, how they formed a Jewish community and became part of Swedish society.

The Royal Palace is the official residence of His Majesty the King of Sweden, with over 600 rooms.The Palace is open to the public and offers no less than five museums. The Palace was largely built during the eighteenth century in the Italian Baroque style, on the spot where the “Tre Kronor” castle burned down in 1697. Visit the reception rooms with splendid interiors from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Rikssalen (the Hall of State) with Queen Kristina’s silver throne, and Ordenssalarna (Halls of the Orders of Chivalry). You can also see Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities, the Tre Kronor Museum, and the Treasury.The Royal Palace also contains the Armory, with royal costumes and armor, as well as coronation carriages and magnificent coaches from the Royal Stable. Make sure not to miss the parade of soldiers and the daily changing of the guard.
