The Royal Dramatic Theatre is Sweden's National Theatre and commonly known as Dramaten. It has played an important role in creating stars for the silver screen. Among them Ingmar Bergman, Ingrid Bergman and Greta Garbo.
Although he is famous for filmmaking, Bergman considered the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm his second home. Films and plays were equally important to him. During his 40 years employed by the Royal Dramatic Theatre, he staged 35 plays and was also head of the theater for a few years in the 1960s. It is no wonder that he vowed to return and haunt the theater after his death, and many think he did.
Even as a child, Garbo dreamed of acting. With commercials and small roles, she managed to get into the Royal Dramatic Theatre’s Acting School at the age of 17.
