By train to Stockholm

By train to Stockholm

Getting to Sweden by train from Europe is quick and easy, especially since the Öresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden opened. The state-owned rail company SJ runs most long-distance routes to Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin and domestic routes in Sweden. The X 2000 express from Malmö in southern Sweden takes around 4.5 hours to Stockholm, and around three hours from Gothenburg in the west of Sweden.

You can look up trips and buy tickets for all rail companies at the SJ website. There is also information about Resplus for those travelling onward by other modes of transport in Sweden. The “Resrobot” website is also a useful tool if you want to look up trips independent of transport company.

Centralstation Stockholm

To StockholmCentral Station in Stockholm has been the natural hub for travelers since 1871. Stockholm's local and long-distance trains come and go from here. The Cityterminalen bus station is right next door, and a pedestrian subway connects to the central underground station, the underground system hub. City buses to Djurgården depart right outside. The main Central Station entrance is from Vasagatan. You'll find ticket sales, a police station, a bureau de change, ATMs, lockers, public conveniences, internet, and several restaurants, cafes and shops. Cityterminalen is at the north end of the station hall. Airport buses and domestic buses depart from here. Arlanda Express departs from the north side of Central Station. The lower hall has a walkway that connects to Central Station, commuter train platforms and the central underground station. The SL-Center is located here, where you can buy Stockholm Cards and tickets for local transport. There is a taxi centre outside the main Central Station entrance on Vasagatan, where you can get assistance finding a taxi with e.g. child seats. The Central Hall is open daily from 05:00 to 00:15.
