By car in Stockholm

By car in Stockholm

If you come by car or rent a car in Stockholm you may park at park-and-ride facilities, in parking garages or on designated street parking. If your car is registered in Sweden you are obliged to pay a congestion charge in the Stockholm inner city.

Park-and-ride

Wouldn’t you like to skip parking in the middle of an unknown city? Just outside the inner city are 25 park-and-ride facilities close to public transport connections. Leaving your car at one of these will contribute to a better environment; it's cheaper and often a lot simpler than trying to find parking in the inner city.
To take advantage of the low day price, you must park at a park-and-ride between 05:00 and 09:00. You'll find a Park-and-Ride map to the right (in swedish only). Click on each address in the list to get a detailed map of the areas.

Parking in town

There are plenty of parking garages in the inner city, especially in Norrmalm. The link to the right will take you to a map of parking garages (P-hus) and open parking areas. Some parking garages charge for the time you have parked as you are leaving. The price is often between SEK 60 and 70 per hour weekdays.

If you park in designated street parking, pay attention to the signs. Most places where you are allowed to park on the street have signs at the entrance to each neighborhood. Street parking meters charge by the hour; most take VISA and MasterCard.

Congestion charge

Swedish-registered vehicles pay a congestion charge weekdays between 06:30-18:29. Road toll cameras register vehicles and an invoice is sent to the vehicle owner at the end of the month. Each trip in or out from Stockholm's inner city costs SEK 10, 15 or 20, depending on the time of day. The maximum amount per day per vehicle is SEK 60. Foreign-registered vehicles and eco-vehicles pay no congestion charges.
