Adventures for children
See real live bears, ride the scariest roller coaster as many times as you can, go on a space adventure, or test your strength with Pippi Longstocking. Stockholm is a child-friendly city and there is so much to choose from. Here are some attractions and museums that are especially good for families with children.
Animals and nature
Skansen – Pet the animals at Lill-Skansen, see bears and moose at the zoo, and see snakes, spiders, and monkeys at the Skansen Aquarium.
Aquaria – Walk through a rain forest, stand face-to-face with live sharks, and learn more about fish found in the Baltic Sea.
Butterfly House – In this enormous greenhouse in Haga Park, hundreds of colorful butterflies from all over the world flutter about freely among visitors. You can also see unusual fish, insects, lizards, and jungle plants.
Experiments and technology
Tom Tit – Large hands-on workshop where children and adults alike can play and experiment for hours. Located in Södertälje, about 25 miles south of central Stockholm.
National Museum of Science and Technology (Tekniska museet) – At Teknorama you can be an astronaut in a space adventure, test your reflexes, and make your own TV show. The Cino4 movie theater shows films you can feel with your whole body!
Play
Junibacken – Storybook museum for energetic children. Meet the Astrid Lindgren characters Pippi Longstocking, Emil, and Karlson.
Gröna Lund – This historic amusement park has many dizzying, fun, and scary rides for everyone in the family.
Museums
Vasa Museum – See the Vasa, a man-of-war ship that sank more than 300 years ago. Try out a real diving bell and see how people lived and what they ate.
Music Museum – Try playing instruments and creating your own sounds in the Klåjnk music workshop.
Royal Armory (Livrustkammaren) – Clothing, armor, and weapons used by Swedish royalty will spark your imagination. The little ones can try out being knights and princesses for a day.
